Dramatic Bell Sleeves and Boyfriend Jeans

I like my sleeves like my TV shows…dramatic! Speaking of dramatic TV shows, I just watched the season 7 premiere of Game of Thrones and OMG. My life is pretty drama free, so I get my fix in the form of TV and movies. My current favorite shows are: Game of Thrones, Wentworth, Jane the Virgin, Orange is the New Black, Power (haven’t started season 4 yet!), Law & Order SVU, any of the Real Housewives franchises, Insecure and Younger.

Anyways, back to this top.

Portugal Inspired Summer Style + Vinho Verde (The Perfect Day Drinking Wine)

In the 1950’s a beautiful, intelligent female pharmacist from Lisbon, Portugal became pen pals with a handsome, sweet man in Tampa, Florida. They wrote each other back and forth for a few months, and eventually started to form a strong friendship. So strong that the man invited the woman to take a holiday to visit him in Tampa so they could meet in person.

The day finally came when the two met, and sparks flew! After a few weeks of hanging out, he asked her to marry him, and she never looked back.

They got married, and shortly after they had a baby girl named Maria. That baby was my mom!

I’ve never had a chance to visit Portugal, but I live vicariously through stories like this one that my mom has told me over the years (this one is my favorite). I’ve always been very proud of my Portuguese heritage (as well as my German and African American heritage), and even took Portuguese in college to learn the language. So when I saw this shirt, I knew I had to have it!

Verão Em Porto is Portuguese and translates to “Summer in Porto” (it should really say Verão no Porto, but oh well). Porto is a coastal city in Northwest Portugal, only about an hour and a half south of the Minho wine region where Vinho Verde wines are produced.

4 Wines You Need To Try This Summer

Summer and wine go hand in hand. What’s better than a chilled white or blush wine to give you life on a hot summer day?

If you told me a few years ago that white and rosé wines would be my favorite wines to drink today, I would’ve told you that you were crazy. I drank Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Zinfandel almost exclusively. Chardonnay and champagne were acceptable, but I really never understood the appeal of white wines until recently.

As my palette developed, and I started to eat a plant-based diet, white wines slowly became my go-to. The light, fruity drinks are perfect for summer, and they won’t stain your white and bright outfits 🙂

Bring one of these four wines to your next summer gathering, and you’ll be the star of the party!

Playful Prints In Palm Springs (Indio)

Whenever my parents come into town, it’s always a good time! I go to Indio (about 25 minutes south of Palm Springs) at least once a year, and had been begging them to come check it out for themselves because I knew they’d love it (I was right, of course).

We stayed at the WorldMark Indio, which has a massive pool, a lazy river, mountain views, large ponds and waterfalls, full size kitchens in all the units and tons of grills to cook out. I L-O-V-E the lazy river! Because what’s better than floating in a big inner tube with a cocktail in hand and the sun shining on your face?

It was a minimum of 100 degrees every day, so I made sure to bring lots of dessert friendly, lightweight items to keep me cool. I’m so excited to share a few of my favorite styles from the trip! Prepare for lots of prints and bright colors.

How To Be Confidently Colorful At Any Size

I’ve always loved bright colors, but until recently, I didn’t feel fully comfortable wearing them. Growing up, I always thought that I should wear darker colors because they were “slimming” and would help hide my curves.

There was a time when almost everything in my closet looked like 50 shades of black. I unintentionally wore so many dark colors because I was insecure and wanted to hide my body. If you’ve ever had body image issues, you know that when you’re unhappy with your body, wearing bright colors is the last thing you want to do.

But is it possible to be confident in colors at any size? Yes!

Longline Kimono & Denim Cutoffs

About 4 years ago, shortly after I moved to LA, I started having a major kimono obsession. I worked at a pretty laid-back startup in Santa Monica where half of my time was spent poolside with my laptop. If you’ve ever been to SoCal, you know that no matter how warm it is during the day, it’ll be somewhere in the 60’s-low 70’s at night (especially if you’re near the water). Being the born and bred Floridian that I am, anything below 75 degrees was cold to me. Kimonos were the perfect solution because they were lightweight and breathable for during the day, yet provided great coverage to shield me from the “cold” temperatures after sunset.

Pairing Rosé with Chambray

Close your eyes and imagine yourself lounging on your patio with a few girlfriends, chatting it up with good food, and a glass of wine in your hand. What kind of wine did you envision yourself with? Was it rosé? If yes, keep reading. If no, keep reading.

Rosé and I had a complicated relationship for the last several years. When I was growing up, my mom’s drink of choice was Sutter Homes White Zinfandel. We always had a bottle in the fridge, and so of course I had a sip every now and then when no one was looking. I remember thinking it tasted like strawberry Kool-Aid, and couldn’t wait until I was allowed to drink it!
